Trekking in Swat Valley
Trekking in Swat Valley is one of the top tourist attractions in Pakistan and is full of hiking and trekking trail through the pine forests, although it is not well known place for longer treks except one or two but good for weekend trekkers.
Trekking in Swat is right choice for trekkers. The lush-green valley of Swat, with its rushing torrents, icy-cold lakes, fruit laden orchards and flower-decked slopes is ideal for holiday maker’s intent on relaxation. It has a rich historical past too. This is the Udyana (the garden) of the ancient Hindu epics “the land of enthralling beuty” where Alexander of Mecedonia fought and won some of his major battles before crossing over to the plains of Pakistan. This is the valley of hanging chains described by the famous Chinese pilgrim-chroniclers, Huian Tsang and Fa-Hian in the 5th and 6th centuries. Swat was once the cradle of Buddhism of all its schools – little vehicle, great vehicle and the Esoteric sects – where once 1,400 monasteries flourished. It was the home of the famous Gandhara school of Sculpture which was an expression of Indo-Graeco form in the local Buddhist tradition. One can enjoy the landscapes while trekking in Swat.
Kachikhani Pass Trek
From Swat over Kachikhani Pass to Chitral (Trekking in Swat)
|Open||Strenuous||4766 m||Aug-Sept||9 Days|
This is one of the most popular treks in Swat Valley. The swat side of the Kachkhani Pass is green and gentle with summer settlements to visit but be prepared for rain as it is monsoon time. The Ushu River descends in ten giant steps from the Kachikhani Pass to Mahodand, with flat pastures or lakes and summer settlements on each ‘step’. The pass is steep and very strenuous with glaciers either side. The Chitral side below the glacier is stony and barren.
